2023 is an exciting year for the automotive market, as numerous legacy automakers are launching several new and highly anticipated models. This year will witness the launch of several SUVs, including the mid-size SUV from Honda, the lifestyle off-roader from Maruti Suzuki – Jimny, and a few other vehicles. Honda Mid-Size SUV
After months of anticipation, we now have confirmation that the Japanese multinational automaker, Honda Cars India, will soon launch its all-new Creta rivalling mid-size SUV in the Indian market. The model has been spotted testing on Indian roads, and it will most likely be launched in the coming months. According to reports, the company is planning for the official debut of this model sometime this month or in May, and its launch will likely be scheduled during the Diwali season.
As mentioned, this will be a mid-size SUV powered by a 121PS 1.5-liter petrol engine from the Honda City, and it will come with a CVT as standard. The interior will look similar to the Amaze, with an all-black theme and a seven-inch touchscreen. The new SUV will be based on the Amaze platform.

Hyundai Exter
Just a few days ago, the South Korean automaker, Hyundai Motors India, revealed that it will be launching an all-new micro-SUV in the country, which will be named Exter. This new SUV will be a direct rival to the Tata Punch and will be smaller than the Venue but will have a similar upright and boxy stance. Most likely, the model will be launched in the coming months and will be offered in the sub Rs 10 lakh range.
It is believed that Hyundai will offer the Exter with a 1.2-liter naturally-aspirated petrol engine, producing 83 PS of power and 114 Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox will be offered as standard, while a 5-speed AMT might be available as an option. However, there are chances that Hyundai might also offer the 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine from the Venue as an option for higher variants.
Tata Punch i-CNG
Tata Motors took the covers off the CNG iteration of its highly popular micro-SUV Punch at the Auto Expo 2023, and it garnered a lot of attention. It is believed that the company will officially launch the model in November of this year. The model will look identical to the standard Punch. However, it will boast a few i-CNG insignias across its exterior.
At the Auto Expo 2023, the company also unveiled the Altroz CNG. Like the Altroz CNG, the Punch CNG will also come equipped with a dual-cylinder CNG setup. It will also get the same 1.2-liter three-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which will generate 77 bhp of power and 97 Nm of torque.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny
One of the most popular SUVs on this list, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, is all set for its official launch in the country, and most likely, the model will be launched next month in May. The SUV has already garnered more than 16,500 bookings, and its list just keeps on growing.
The Jimny will be the only ladder-on-frame SUV from Maruti Suzuki and it will include the Suzuki AllGrip Pro system, which features 2H, 4H, and 4L low-range transfer gear. As for the drivetrain, the off-roader SUV will come powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 103 bhp and 134 Nm of torque. It will be offered with the option of a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed torque converter.
Tata Nexon Facelift
The Tata Motors Nexon, one of the most popular sub-compact SUVs in the country, will soon get an extensive makeover. According to reports, the model is anticipated to launch in August of this year. The facelifted model will get plenty of exterior visual updates and a new interior with additional features.
Sources claim that the updated Tata Nexon will receive a new 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. The new engine will make around 125 bhp and 225 Nm of maximum torque. Also this new petrol engine will be available with a 6-speed manual from the current model of the SUV in addition to the anticipated 6-speed DCT. In addition, despite the fact that most small cars and SUVs have shied away from diesel alternatives, the 1.5-liter 110-horsepower diesel engine will still be offered as the second available powerplant on the 2023 Tata Nexon.
