Toyota Fortuner vs Land Rover Defender 110: Which one would win in a tug of war?

The Toyota Fortuner is currently the most popular SUV in its segment. The current generation Fortuner is an extremely capable off-road SUV and also provides enough creature comforts for customers who drive it on the road. In the past, we have come across several videos related to the Toyota Fortuner on the internet. Like many other Toyota products, the Fortuner is also popular among buyers for its reliability. We have seen several examples of people still using first-generation Fortuner SUVs without any issues. We have also seen this SUV perform off-road. In a video uploaded by Explore The Unseen 2.0 on their YouTube channel, a Toyota Fortuner 4×4 is seen competing with a Land Rover Defender 110 SUV in a tug of war.

In the video, the vlogger drives his BMW 340i to meet some friends, and after meeting them, he receives a call from another friend inviting him for a friendly tug of war competition. It was not the vlogger who was participating, but his Toyota Fortuner was competing with his friend’s Land Rover Defender. The Land Rover Defender is a huge SUV, especially the 110 variant. In the video, the vlogger can be heard saying that this is a friendly competition, and it should not be done on public roads. They chose an empty parking lot to conduct this experiment. The only reason they were doing this was that the vlogger was getting a lot of comments on the same.

Land Rover Defender pulling Fortuner

The Land Rover Defender seen in the video is the 2.0-liter petrol variant. This engine generates 296 Bhp and 400 Nm of peak torque, and it is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Toyota Fortuner, on the other hand, is powered by a 2.8-liter turbocharged diesel engine that generates 201 Bhp and 500 Nm of peak torque. On paper, the Fortuner appeared to have the advantage since it had more torque. Both SUVs were tied using a tow rope. In the first round, the Defender was in 4H, while the Fortuner was in 2H mode. Both drivers prepared, and upon receiving the signal, they started pulling each other. The Land Rover Defender pulled the Fortuner without any issue, surprising the vlogger.

In the next round, the vlogger engaged 4H in the Fortuner, and both drivers prepared to pull the SUVs again. After engaging 4H in the Fortuner, there was a slight improvement in performance. The Fortuner got more traction in the tug of war as power was being sent to all four wheels. It did manage to pull the Defender slightly, making us think that it could do it. However, when the Defender driver pushed the accelerator, the Fortuner stood no chance, and it was simply pulled by the Land Rover. For the final round, the vlogger turned off traction control in the Fortuner and tried to pull the Defender. Just like the second round, the Fortuner managed to pull the Defender slightly, but at the end, it was the Defender that won all the rounds. On paper, the Defender had less torque, which made the vlogger think that the Fortuner might be able to pull it. However, they forgot the fact that the Defender was heavier and also a lot more powerful than the Fortuner.
